First of all, your pet will get a check over by the vet to make sure that she is fit and healthy to have surgery that day and to also decide on the anaesthetic protocol for her. She will be given a premed- which is a combination of a sedative and pain relief to make sure she is nice and relaxed before surgery, and to make sure she has good pain relief onboard before anything happens. This means her recovery will be much faster and more comfortable for her! Once she is calm and relaxed, an IV catheter will be placed and she will be given medication to start the anaesthesia (induction). She will also be connected to IV fluids to help maintain her blood pressure during surgery.
